Illinois legalized weed in January 2020. Some criminal records related to weed can now be expunged through a special process. See if you qualify to clear your record in this way.

This program will help you prepare your documents. It will ask you questions and you will enter your answers. At the end of the program, you will get a completed set of court forms with instructions that you can save and print.
Form completion time: 15 minutes to 45 minutes

To use this program, you must have an adult criminal record that you are trying to expunge (erase) or seal (hide). If you want to expunge or seal your criminal records in more than one county, you will have to complete this program for each county separately. If you have records in more than one district in Cook County, you will have to complete this program for each district separately.
If you are not a US citizen, you should consult an immigration lawyer before you try to seal or expunge your record. Any evidence of criminal activity, even if sealed or expunged, can be used in proceedings.

To complete this program, you will need:
- Court Dispositions for all of your criminal cases,
- Your Illinois State Police RAP Sheet, and
- If you had arrests or charges in Chicago, your Chicago Police RAP Sheet.

As a general rule, a drug test taken within 30 days of filing for expungement or sealing that shows a positive cannabis result should not make you ineligible for sealing/expungement. Illinois passed HB4392 in 2022, effective Jan 1, 2023, to clarify this rule.
