In order to start a new case in the Illinois e-filing system, you need to know which area of law and the legal issue you have.
This worksheet details this information for the 1st Municipal District (Daley Center) for only these case types:
- Family law
- Protective orders
- Eviction cases
- Guardianship cases
- Name changes
- Expungement (Note: You may only e-file an expungement petition if it is only for an arrest without charging. Otherwise, you must file in person or by mail.)
- Cases dealing with money or personal belongings
- Municipal code violations, parking tickets and similar
The Expungement Help Desk is available for people needing free legal assistance regarding their expungement or sealing. It is located in from of the Circuit Court Clerk's Office, Room 136 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM.
