The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program gives temporary financial help to:
- pregnant women, and
- families with one or more dependent children.
The program is meant to help families as they become financially stable.
After you complete an application for TANF, you may receive a notification your application was denied.
Your application may be denied because:
- you have been convicted of certain felony offenses;
- you violated your probation or parole;
- you refuse to work or pursue child support enforcement;
- you did not submit enough information needed to determine eligibility, or
- you have used up your five years of TANF benefits.
You may want to appeal the denial, as well as apply for other assistance options.
If your TANF benefits application has been denied or you have been notified your benefits will be reduced or cut, you can appeal this decision.
Worried about doing this on your own? You may be able to get free legal help.
