This is an attorney desk reference manual from Illinois Legal Aid Online. It covers all aspects of an administrative hearing for a revoked or suspended licenses.
A person that has lost driving privileges may be required to attend an administrative hearing before having privileges restored. Formal hearings are required when the suspension or revocation involved a fatality or multiple DUI dispositions. An informal hearing is sufficient in all other cases including an initial DUI disposition. Hearings can result in a restricted driving permit (RDP) or reinstatement of driving privileges. First time DUI offenders may be eligible for a monitored device driving permit (MDDP) allowing vehicles equipped with a breath alcohol ignition interlock device (BAIID) to be driven. Drivers with an RDP whose suspension or revocation was related to a DUI or similar offense will be required to install a BAIID in their vehicles.
