First, fill out Letters to Creditor and Employer to Stop a Wage Assignment. Print the letters, and sign and date them. Then, make 2 copies of them.
Keep one copy of each of the 2 letters for your records. Then, go to the post office and mail the original copy of the letter addressed to the creditor by certified mail, return receipt requested. Also, put one copy of the letter addressed to your employer in the envelope you are sending to the creditor.
Do the same thing for the letter addressed to the employer. Send the original letter to your employer, with a copy of the letter you sent to the creditor. Mail them by certified mail, return receipt requested.
The postal service will return the green certified mail receipt to you when the letters are delivered to the creditor and your employer. Keep the green receipt as proof that the letters were received.
What's next?
Your employer should stop giving your wages to the creditor. If they don't, you should talk to a lawyer. Remember, you will still owe the money. The creditor can use other methods to collect it. That probably means a court case, which may end with an involuntary wage garnishment.
