You can request a formal hearing if you disagree with a Secretary of State decision involving a driver's license or permit.
All formal hearings are conducted in Springfield, Chicago, Mount Vernon and Joliet. A request for formal hearing is initiated by request in writing and payment of a fee of $50.00. The Secretary of State is required to set the hearing date within ninety (90) days of the request for hearing.
You need to work with the Secretary of State Administrative Hearings department on one of the following problems:
- Contest the suspension, revocation or cancellation action of the Secretary of State,
- Apply for a Restricted Driving Permit (RDP),
- Apply for reinstatement of driving privileges,
- Alternatively, apply for reinstatement or an RDP,
- Contest the re-suspension or extension of the statutory summary suspension under the Monitoring Device Driving Permit (MDDP) Program, or
- Another reason.
You will need your:
- Name,
- Address,
- Illinois driving license number,
- Date of birth,
- Phone number, and
- Email address.
