Eviction in cold weather

The sheriff can evict someone at any time after an Eviction Order has been entered. You should be ready to move out before the enforcement date of your Eviction Order.

But, there may be a court order or local rules that protects you. A sheriff can decide not to evict if it is very cold outside due to court order. Call your county sheriff's department to find out their rules for winter.

In Cook County, the Sheriff does not evict people when it is under 15 degrees or during severe weather conditions regardless of temperature. The Cook County Sheriff also does not evict people December 19 through January 4. Check the Cook County Sheriff's website for the most up-to-date information.
