LGBTQ and persons with HIV in deportation proceedings

There are special protections for certain types of deportation proceedings. If you fear going back to your country, you may qualify for these protections. To find out, contact the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC). NIJC has an LGBTQ Immigrant Rights Initiative devoted to these issues. They provide legal services to low-income immigrants who identify as:

  • Lesbian,
  • Gay,
  • Bisexual, or
  • Transgender.

They also help those who are living with HIV.

If you or someone you know has been detained, contact NIJC. They can provide information and assistance. These services may help avoid deportation. NIJC will also send an information packet to any detained person. He or she can then use the packet to apply for asylum.
